Dominion Voting Systems Hits Sidney Powell With Legal Threat

Pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell finds herself confronting the prospect of legal action from the electronic voting systems company, Dominion. The development comes days after Smartmatic issued cease-and-desist letters, demanding retractions from right-wing news networks.

Law & Crime’s Matt Naham reports:

The company and its voting machines, it says, have been the target of relentless and “reckless disinformation” campaign, led by Powell, Rudy Giuliani, other allies of President Donald Trump, and Trump himself.

Powell has repeatedly claimed publicly that Smartmatic was linked to Dominion and deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Dominion has said none of that is true, and news reports have noted that Trump won an overwhelming majority of counties across swing-states that used Dominion Voting Systems:

Reviewing 10 competitive states (Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) finds President Trump won 81% of the 351 counties using Dominion systems. Trump won 79% of the counties that didn’t use Dominion systems. In those states, Biden won Dominion counties by two points, and non-Dominion counties 0.5%.

Powell’s legal efforts, colloquially known as the “Kraken” lawsuits, have gone on to lose in every court in which they have appeared. In Georgia, Powell and her co-counsel sought to have a judge issue a temporary restraining order to keep Dominion voting machines untouched. When they didn’t quite get the order they were looking for in the district court, Powell et al. took an interlocutory appeal to Eleventh Circuit.
