President-elect Joe Biden revealed his proposal to ensure a fairer stimulus that helps businesses on main street rebuild in the wake of coronavirus-inspired lockdowns:
That may sound good at a passing glance, but important controversies remain unresolved. First and foremost, Biden plans to help businesses will prioritize those owned by minorities and women. Reading from a teleprompter, the president-elect said, “Our priority will be Black, Latino, Asian, and Native American-owned small businesses, women-owned businesses and finally having equal access to resources needed to reopen and rebuild.” His statement didn’t acknowledge small business owners from other demographics who have suffered because they too lack the resources and connections larger corporations enjoy.
BizPac Review reports:
In a note of irony or perhaps lack of self-awareness, Biden lamented the fact that the restaurant industry has been “slammed by this virus” and vowed to support them in particular.
It is mostly Democrat governors, mayors, and other officials, however, who have crushed the hospitality sector with draconian restrictions that they often have themselves violated.
Biden cheerleaders on Twitter loved the messaging, but others registered a dissenting opinion. Here is a sample:
For someone “preaching” unity and “we are all Americans”, this is a disingenuous message. Priority should be for ALL american owned small business. No qualifiers or exceptions.

As an Hispanic I say NO! Need is need regardless of identity. It’s quite possible a white male in poverty is in more need than me, a middle class Hispanic woman. You’re going to tear us apart with this. Please, stop.

This is discriminatory. I’m Asian. I don’t want any preferential treatment. I want freedom to choose for everybody!

PSA: Discrimination based on race and sex includes white men and remains unlawful under federal law.

I’m a women and I don’t want preferential treatment. What about white-male owned businesses who work just as hard as minority owned businesses? You don’t know their financial situations or life background. This is sick!

I’m a lifelong Democrat. You won’t lose me by prioritizing by race/ethnicity. But you will lose many others – try explaining to a hard hit white male restaurant owner (who employs a largely Latino staff) why he and his employees are the lowest priority for federal aid.
