House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on the House floor moments ago that President Trump bears partial responsibility for the Jan. 6 Capitol building riot.
Business Insider reported McCarthy allegedly snapped during a phone call with the president on Monday after Trump stated that disguised Antifa members were solely responsible for the attack despite the arrests and deaths of pro-Trump participants. “It’s not Antifa — it’s MAGA,” McCarthy said, according to Axios, adding, “I know. I was there.”

While McCarthy expressed his frustration, he continues to advocate against impeachment.
Axios further reports on the occasionally combative 30-minute call between Trump and McCarthy on Monday:
The White House official said the call was tense and aggressive at times, with Trump ranting about election fraud and an exasperated McCarthy cutting in to say, “Stop it. It’s over. The election is over.”
He told Trump he should call Joe Biden, meet with the president-elect and follow tradition and leave a welcome letter in the Resolute Desk for his successor.
The president told him he hadn’t decided whether to do so for Biden.
A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Amid the ongoing impeachment debate, President Trump released another statement denouncing all forms of political violence.
TRUMP statement: “In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers.” pic.twitter.com/rGfNdXqCvR
