The thousands of National Guard troops that were deployed to Washington D.C. to act as security during President Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration were told to leave the Capitol and other congressional buildings on Thursday, and as of that evening, were sleeping outside and in parking garages.
The Troops
After the Capitol Riots 25,000 National Guard troops were ordered to Washington D.C. to prevent further unrest in the lead up to the inauguration event, they slept on cold marble floors of congressional buildings without cots or sleeping bags.
There are at least a thousand, probably more, National Guard troops all over the Capitol Visitor Center, Emancipation Hall, and surrounding hallways. They’re sleeping in reception areas, the cafeteria, the entrance to the building. Everywhere. pic.twitter.com/EFvofT8fqx
